Every April, the rainy city we know and love is transformed into a pastel-hued wonderland by the 43,000 cherry blossom trees that burst into bloom each spring. These trees light up nearly every residential street in the city with cotton-candy colours and serve as a glimmer of hope for the warm weather to come. The annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates this rebirth through a haiku spotlight series, guides for blossom-viewing available on their website, and a Sakura Days Japanese culture fair held at Van Dusen Botanical Gardens on April 9 and 10. The two-day festival features food vendors, tea ceremonies, woodworking presentations and cultural performers. It’s the perfect way to ring in the spring!
