When I was a kid, the unofficial start of the summer was always marked by a new pair of Crocs. The versatile sandal was iconic and irreplaceable—when it debuted in 2002, the shoe’s durability and novelty quickly landed them on the feet of every toddler, preteen and granola grandparent in the country. But as clogs shifted out of style, the noble Croc spent years as the butt of a cultural joke.
