For much of the history of photography as an art form, capturing the nuance and variability of clouds was impossible. It was only when technology improved (and long exposure became unnecessary) that artists could photograph the sky in all its glory. Cloud Album, a new exhibition at the Polygon, celebrates and analyzes this practice with the help of 250 works that range from the early days of photography to satellite imagery and everything in between. These images tell stories of war, conflict, nature, pollution and more — and examine the ways in which photography and the natural world have always been connected.
