Established in 1935, The Plaza theatre is the stuff of Calgary legend — so when the scruffy old spot shuttered in 2020, film buffs mourned. Now, thanks to a facelift from its new owner, it’s back, baby! Art-house, independents and new releases will grace its screen once more. And now, there’s more than just popcorn: a 1960s West African-themed cocktail bar, café, food truck and a concession named John Candy offer snacks aplenty.
